October is finally here! Woo hoo! I know I'm not the only one excited to see fall come on the scene- cooler weather, leaves changing color, pumpkins and marshmallow pumpkin latte hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works (my favorite fall accessory). I try not to think about the cold weather at this time and just truly try to enjoy this oh so lovely cooler fall weather.
I really do enjoy how the garden changes in the fall. I get a little google-eyed when I see the leaves change colors, then I start to think about planting tulip bulbs and daffodils for the spring. It truly puts me in an exciting anticipation of what will come after the winter subsides. Do you drool when you get those flower and bulb catalogs in the mail in the fall? I go a little crazy so sometimes I don't even look at the catalog before I throw it into the trash-I have a flower and plant problem in case you didn't know-it's just too much temptation! HA! HA!
Well, fall is a great time for lots of gardening duties to be done-getting that last bit of compost on some of those perennials. Maybe you want to plant a new tree-fall is a great time to do that (I've been known to plant a few woody perennials in winter too if its been a mild one-they lived by the way). Or maybe you are like me and you love to plant those beautiful and vibrant tulip and daffodil (narcissus) bulbs. Nothing gets me going more than looking at all the selection of bulbs out there to beautify my garden and fields for spring picking!
And if you are a kid at heart, rake those leaves up when they fall off the trees and jump into them like a child. Disclaimer here-don't get hurt-if you are not sure you can do this without getting hurt invite the neighbor over with their child or grandchild and watch the fun ensue. I spent a large part of my childhood jumping in leaves, raking paths for races, and anything else I could do with them. I enjoy watching our flower dog Gracie run through them now when we have a large collection on the ground.
Well I could go on and on about why I love fall but I think I don't have to convice you anymore. I hope you can find something beautiful in fall that brings you joy and puts you in the spirit!
